Frequently Asked Questions About Strategic Advantage

What is your Buy List, and how should I use it?
The Buy List contains all of my current recommendations. Here you can find current buy limits, targets and any other quick-reference information that will help you decide which recommendations fit your investment needs best.

I update the Buy List each time there is a new recommendation, a sale of a recommendation or an important update to any of our holdings. In general, in Strategic Advantage we aim for a one-year holding period with the hope that will continue to profit for many years to come.

How do I choose which stocks from the Core Select List to invest in?
My Core Select List is made up of the best performing stocks the market has to offer. All of the picks have been up at least nine of the last 10 years. Stocks that streak through nearly 10 years straight can stumble in the eleventh, to be sure. But it is fairly rare. These Core stocks make a decent starter investment portfolio. That is, if you were handed $100,000 and told to create a relatively conservative new portfolio of stocks, these would be a safe place to start.

One way to cut the list down would be to rank them by price, and just take the lowest-priced 10 or 15. Another way would be to wait for a big correction in the overall market, and buy 15 to 20 into the latter stages of high-volume decline once I tell you in Daily Edition that the coast is clear. A third way is to examine them individually to determine low-risk set-ups, and I will do that for you over the course or the next year. For added safety and protection in this fire-and-forget portfolio I will set stops at -22.5%.

Which stocks in the Dow Select List should I invest in first?
My Dow Select List contains the very best stocks of the Dow. The Dow is one of the most underappreciated indexes out there, despite the fact that the Dow has beaten the fancy pants off the S&P 500 -- and every other market proxy -- since 1999. The best way to take advantage of the profits that this buy list has to offer would be to buy every name on the list in equal amounts. If that isn't possible, I would start with the top performers in the group. My philosophy is that it's movers that will continue to move and to put your money on the lead horse and not the one at the back of the pack while praying for a comeback.

What is the best place to start when choosing stocks from the Strategic Advantage Buy List to invest in?
Every Friday in the Strategic Advantage issue, I provide updates for each of our holdings in the Strategic Advantage Buy List. In the write-ups, I will tell you if it is a good time to buy a new position, add to your existing position, hold your current position or sell the stock. So if you are a new subscriber to Strategic Advantage, the best way to get up to speed with my current advice is to check out the most recent issue. And, as always, if you have any questions, simply send me an email.

Can you look at my Buy List and tell me what to sell or hold?
I work very hard to bring you the very best investments the market has to offer. However, SEC regulations prohibit me from offering personal Buy List advice to subscribers. And it wouldn't be prudent or practical for me to offer private Buy List analysis over email. I would need to know too many facts about your private situation to make sound recommendations.

I will however provide you with the very best stock recommendations that the market has to offer, and we'll alert you should any of those companies no longer meet my criteria for investment.

Also, though I cannot cover every stock in the market, don't hesitate to send me your general investment questions and other questions regarding our recommended stocks. To send your questions to Jon click here. While I cannot answer every email personally, my staff and I do read every question we receive and answer as many as we can.

What is Strategic Advantage Daily Edition?
The way I see it, no matter how much you may be a long-term investor, you probably think about your investments every day. That's why I created Strategic Advantage Daily Edition.

Plus, money making opportunities don't obligingly reveal themselves on a monthly or weekly publishing schedule. So our daily schedule also allows me to get you down front, close to the action.

Each day, around the market close, you will receive your Strategic Advantage Daily Edition from me in your inbox. This daily letter explains how the market is shaping our investments and if there's any action you need to take the following trading day.
